Withdrawing From Your Program

If you are contemplating withdrawal from your study abroad program, please contact a staff member in the Office for Study Abroad (OSA) before doing so to discuss your options. If you withdraw from study abroad, you are responsible for all financial repercussions (see your Study Abroad Handbook for more details). If you withdraw from study abroad after you have been registered for courses you are responsible for the $400 study abroad fee. Once you make the decision to withdraw you will need to complete the following:

  1. Notify the OSA in writing of your decision to withdraw. The OSA will accept this statement by email to studyabr@gwu.edu or by fax at 202.994.9133. The statement must come directly from you and not a parent or friend. The statement should contain your name, GWid, and program abroad.

  2. Notify the program provider of your decision to withdraw following the guidelines set forth by the provider.

  3. Notify your academic adviser of the decision to return to GW and ensure that all holds are removed from your student account to register for GW classes (if it is not too late to register for courses).

  4. If you have any type of financial assistance (e.g., Presidential Scholarship, Stafford Loan, University Alumni Award), then you (or your Power of Attorney) must also notify the Office of Student Financial Assistance of your decision to return to GW.

  5. If you want to request on-campus housing, then you (or your proxy) must notify GW Housing of your intent to return.

  6. Register for classes at GW.
