Study Abroad Application Process
- Attend a General Information Session early in your decision process.
- Complete a Policy Acknowledgement Form (PAF) the semester before you plan on going abroad. The PAF initiates the academic and judicial review of your records for your GW approval to study abroad. You will receive an email message, usually within 2-3 weeks, indicating the outcome of this review.
- Research Programs approved by GW that meet your academic and personal goals either online or in the Study Abroad Resource Room.
- Identify top-two program choices. If you experience difficulty finding programs that satisfy your academic and intellectual interests, be sure to speak with a study abroad advisor during open advising hours (Monday – Friday, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.)
- Review your two program selections with your academic advisor. Make sure that courses offered in these programs will complement your course of study at GW.
- Apply to your top-two program choices. If the program application requires an approval form from a Study Abroad Advisor, please bring the form to the OSA when you have been approved for study abroad (see step 2). The form will be ready to pick up the following afternoon.
- When you have received responses from your applications, decide which program you will attend. Confirm your enrollment by paying any required enrollment deposit. You are responsible for paying the initial enrollment deposit. This deposit will appear as a credit on your GW student account during the semester you study abroad.
