Costs & Scholarships

At GW, a study abroad semester is comparably priced to an on-campus semester, including full-time tuition, a study abroad fee, room, and board. Participants are billed GW charges for their study abroad program, not the fees indicated in program literature or web sites. As study abroad is an elective and monitored activity, the University charges all study abroad participants a study abroad fee to support the administrative, advising, programming, and credit evaluation services of the Office for Study Abroad.

*Students will be charged their fixed tuition rate set the year they entered GW according to GW's Fixed Tuition Plan. To determine your tuition rate, please visit the Financial Aid website.
**Students who choose study abroad programs that do not include room and board will not be charged these fees by GW, and will be responsible for their own arrangements. GW bills the student a room charge based upon a median room rate at the Foggy Bottom campus and a board charge based upon the number of meals received per week.

There are a number of scholarships available to study abroad students. The Office for Study Abroad has four unique scholarships available to GW students, and many of GW’s affiliated program providers offer merit- and need-based scholarships. Financial assistance is also available through outside sources, such as government agencies, non-profits, and private foundations. In order to increase the likelihood of success, students are encouraged to begin the funding search as early as possible.
