Billing and GW Policy

Billing

GW students pay the tuition, fee, room, and board costs directly to GW according to the same schedule as is established for students studying on campus for the semester. Students enrolled in Academic Management Services (AMS) should pay by installment, according to the contract. All other students should pay immediately upon receipt of the bill.

GW strives to be as accurate as possible when billing students for study abroad programs. As many programs offer multiple housing options and students may change options without GW being notified, the fees GW bills students for study abroad may not always match the individual options selected by the student. In such cases, the Office for Study Abroad will correct the billing upon written confirmation from the program provider of the housing option the student has selected with the program.

GW Policy on Study Abroad Costs

GW’s home billing policy on tuition and fees for all approved study abroad programs permits most forms of financial aid and scholarships to apply to the cost of the semester abroad, making study abroad accessible to students who depend on aid. Also, by charging GW tuition, room, and board fees for study abroad, GW encourages students to choose a program that furthers their individual academic and career goals without regard to differences in cost. The Office for Study Abroad understands that there are differences between the actual costs of study abroad programs and the costs of a GW semester. Some programs are more expensive than a GW semester, while others are less expensive. Ultimately, the home billing policy helps to fund study abroad scholarships and offsets University expenditures for the academic and administrative oversight needed to support international study toward the GW degree for a significant and increasing proportion of GW’s undergraduate students.
