Deposits & Other Costs

Program Deposits

If a program requires an enrollment deposit or confirmation fee, the student must pay this fee directly to the program provider at the instructed time. The amount of this deposit will then be credited to the student’s GW account during the semester abroad.

Costs covered in the GW’s study abroad program charges

GW covers the costs of the academic portion of the study abroad program. In some study abroad programs, orientation, specific excursions and site visits are part of the student’s academic study and are included in program fees paid by GW. If a student selects a program which provides room and board arrangements, GW bills the student a room charge based upon a median room rate at the Foggy Bottom campus and a board charge based upon the number of meals received per week. GW also provides medical evacuation and repatriation insurance for all study abroad students.

Costs not covered by GW study abroad program charges

Students are responsible for any costs billed by the program that are not included in the program fee, such as costs associated with optional activities, premium services and features, and security or damage deposits. Students pay these charges directly to the program. Other costs incurred by the student include medical consultations and vaccinations, round-trip airfare and all personal expenses, as well as any penalties incurred by voluntary or involuntary changes to their airline tickets.

GW bills study abroad participants based upon the specific components offered by their study abroad programs. Students who select an independent housing and meal option, if available on the program, pay for these directly and are not billed these charges by GW.
