Supplemental Scholarship
The Supplemental Scholarship provides awards to help finance study abroad for Federal Work-Study students, who must forfeit this particular source of aid when they travel abroad. Students currently receiving Federal Work-Study funds may apply to receive up to the maximum amount of their award per semester.
Eligibility
All applicants must meet the following criteria at the time of application:
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- No history of judicial infractions or academic probation
- Currently receiving a Federal Work-Study award
- Submit the GW Study Abroad Forms, essay, and other required documentation by the deadlines.
Deadlines
- Fall semester or year abroad: May 1
- Spring semester: November 14
How to Apply
Submit one essay (as described below) with an unofficial copy of your GW transcript to The Office for Study Abroad. GWeb transcripts are not accepted.
Also, you must include:
- Financial aid award letter from previous semester indicating work study
- Letter from current Work-Study supervisor on campus verifying current number of hours worked per week and the hourly remuneration rate
Please include a cover sheet indicating your name, GWID, email address, the semester(s) you will study abroad, and your chosen program(s). Scholarship applications will not be accepted without the required Study Abroad Forms for program verification purposes.
Essay
Submit a 500- to 750-word typed essay on one topic from the following options:
- How do you think you will spend your free time abroad, and how do you imagine you might get involved with the new city and people around you?
- Describe how a semester in your chosen study abroad destination might differ from a semester at GW?
