Independent and Governmental Organizations

The National Security Education Program encourages American students to study less commonly taught languages and cultures, especially in nations considered to be of interest to national security. After graduation, student recipients are required to work for an office or agency of the Federal Government involved in national security affairs or in higher education.

The Gilman Scholarship is designed to lower barriers to study abroad for undergraduates by offering financial awards to students receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at the time of application.

Bridging Scholarships are given for undergraduate students of any major to study abroad in Japan.

Morgan Stanley Japan Scholarships awards scholarships to US students to study economics or international finance in Japan.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships for study abroad, university language or summer courses, senior thesis research and/or internships in the Federal Republic of Germany.

DiversityAbroad.com offers scholarships for students from underrepresented populations in study abroad. The Turkey Minority Student Scholarship is a $2,000 award for an African-American, Latino, or Native American Student planning to study abroad in Turkey. The DiversityAbroad.com Study Abroad Scholarship is open to any student attending a member organization program.

Mobility International USA maintains resources for students with disabilities on study abroad funding and scholarship opportunities.

BUTEX offers scholarships for students studying abroad in the UK at a BUTEX-affiliated institution, many of which are on the GW Approved List of Study Abroad Programs. The deadline for 2009-2010 is August 1, 2009.
