Currently, the program is open to GW students (generally sophomores) who plan to study abroad during the Fall semester and return to campus for Spring.
Yes. However, the FOFA Program does offer many additional benefits.
Students who wish to study abroad during the fall semester are eligible to apply to the Focus on Fall Abroad program. Applications must be submitted online during the fall semester of the year prior to studying abroad.
The application deadline has passed for GW students who wish to be part of the Focus on Fall Abroad Living and Learning Community for the next academic year (2008-2009). Please consider filling out the online application for the Fall 2009/Spring 2010 academic year.
All

applications.

The Office for Study Abroad completes the application review and
notifies students of their admission to the program. As space is
limited, we encourage students to apply promptly. Applicants are
reviewed according to the following criteria:
- All applicants must have a minimum cumulative GW GPA of 3.0.
- All applicants must submit the online application by the specified due date.
- To be eligible for the program during the Spring semester, students must plan to study abroad during the Fall
semester.
- Students must be in good judicial standing and have no record of prior disciplinary infractions at the University.
- Students must participate in a GW approved study abroad program from the University's List of Study Abroad Programs. Students who elect to petition to participate in a non-approved program are eligible if their petition is approved.
The Office for Study Abroad will notify students electronically within a week after the application deadline has passed. Students who are admitted and intend to enroll in the
program will be required to make a $300 deposit confirming their
participation in the program.
Note:
Names of all confirmed students will be forwarded to GW Housing
so accepted applicants can be notified of procedures for the iHousing process specific to the FOFA program.
Rather than signing an annual housing contract, students who participate in the Focus on Fall Abroad Living and Learning Community will sign a one-semester contract only. Those students who plan to study abroad in the Fall semester will sign a contract obligating them to live in their chosen residence hall during the subsequent Spring semester. Students who decide to extend the study abroad program through the Spring semester will forfeit their $300 deposit and will need to participate in the regular housing lottery to secure fall housing on GW campus. Students who decide to withdraw from the program but still return to campus in the spring semester remain responsible for the GW housing charges for the spring semester.
If you choose not to study abroad after having paid your $300 confirmation deposit, you will forfeit your confirmation deposit and all other FOFA program benefits.
If you choose to live on campus for the fall, your name will be entered in the housing lottery to find fall housing. If you choose to live off-campus in the fall, you will still be responsible for the GW housing charges for the spring semester.
