Academics

ACADEMIC COURSES:

For the first three weeks of the program, students enroll in a three-credit Spanish language and culture course. This intensive course immerses students in the study of the language and culture through a focus on grammar, conversation, and composition exercises. Following the intensive course, students normally select four courses from among GW Madrid’s offerings. At least one of these courses needs to be a continuation of language study so that you will earn a total of at least six credit hours of Spanish language courses.

All courses taught for the GW Madrid program are regular GW offerings.  UAM faculty integrate the highest level of scholarship with professional experience and are approved by departments at the GW after review of their teaching credentials, course material, and syllabi.

Students with advanced Spanish language ability are strongly encouraged to enroll in courses offered through Universidad Autónoma de Madird (UAM).   UAM courses are taught in Spanish with UAM students. GW students receive transfer credit for courses taken at UAM. A passing grade of C or above qualifies for transfer credit. Extensive information about the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid is available online.
