Program Options

The Office for Study Abroad maintains a list of approved study abroad programs for GW undergraduate students studying abroad for a semester or academic year. Over 400 programs in 50 countries are available for GW students. The list was compiled through faculty and professional staff review and is reviewed and updated periodically.

Types of Programs

  • GW Study Programs
GW's 6 Study Programs in England, Paris, Madrid, Argentina, Chile, and Costa Rica allow students to study at a variety of partner institutions and work with GW staff in the US and abroad throughout the process.
  • GW Exchanges
GW's 30+ exchange partners allow students to experience a foreign institution as if they were a student of the partner institution.

  • GW Short-Term Abroad Programs
GW offers students the opportunity to enroll in summer and semester courses with overseas components.  These courses are led by GW faculty and spend anywhere from one week to one month abroad.

  • Affiliated Provider Programs
GW's approved affiliated provider programs greatly expand the options available to GW students and offer students the support needed throughout their study abroad process.
  • Petitioned Programs
A strict petition process allows select students with clear academic reasoning the opportunity to petition to attend a program not on GW's approved list of programs.
  • Summer Abroad
Students studying abroad in the summer have a variety of options and can choose to attend any accredited program.

How do I know which program is right for me?

Planning, research and more planning.  Determine your goals for study abroad BEFORE you begin to do a great deal of research. Consider any course requirements you must fulfill during your time abroad, how immersed in the culture you want to be (e.g., homestay vs. apartment living), and the language(s) you want to learn or improve while abroad.

The OSA is here to help! Learn more about our advising resources and how they can help in your program selection.
